Dr. Sklarsh

Greetings,

I am so proud of our incredible all-around growth this past 2018-2019 academic year! Here are just a few of our amazing accomplishments:

1:1 TECHNOLOGY- Every student in 2nd-5thgrade has their own computer to develop the 21stcentury skills needed to be successful in college and their future careers.

FOCUSED INSTRUCTION- Through study and collaboration, teachers are becoming experts on the Common Core Standards so that everyone- including our students- understands and can explain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful. (Ask any of our teachers about SOSA!) With regular formative assessments and dedicated time to analyze student work, both teachers and students are keeping track of and reflection on their progress. What an inspiration!

GROWTH OF STUDENT CLUBS- From one Robotics Club in 2017-2018 to six after school clubs in 2018-2019, we are really bringing out the creativity and talents in our Cougar Leaders! At our  Leadership Day/Open House, we celebrated the success of the Theater Club, the Cinema Club, 2 Art Clubs, a Creative Club, and the returning Robotics Club! Our clubs grew this year. The students have certainly benefited from being part of a smaller community that connects them through similar passions.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS- Parent volunteers have also contributed to our growth as a learning community by helping prepare materials for the classes and hosting celebrations, such as Latino and African American Heritage month, City Year, and many more. What stood out the most was their generosity and appreciation for our teachers during the strike. Our very hospitable parent volunteers shared a piece of their hearts by filling our  teachers’ stomachs each day.

Have a wonderful break. I  look forward to seeing you during the ’19-’20 academic year. I wish our fifth-grade students success in middle school. Remember to Sharpen the Saw!
